VICTOR SOLUTIONS / INSTALL

Bring Victor to your infrastructure.

Install Victor Host on your servers, deploy the appliance to a supported existing cluster, or run the management services on Kubernetes. Choose the deployment that fits your environment, with a separate evaluation path for a first look.

01 / FOUR STARTING POINTS

One product. Different install surfaces.#

The Host ISO is the closest route to a complete system. The appliance and Helm chart bring Victor to infrastructure you already run.

01 / BARE METAL

Victor Host ISO

Install a complete Victor virtualization host offline, with KVM, management services and monitoring included. Builds from current source join more hosts with a token and set up Ceph from three; the published v0.1.0-pre.2 ISO is single-host.

The installer erases the disk you select. Check the release notes and checksum first.

02 / EXISTING INFRASTRUCTURE

Victor appliance

Run Victor’s management services, database and metrics in one VM on a supported existing cluster. Manage the appliance from Administration › Appliance; the installation guide lists runtime prerequisites.

Appliance guide
03 / KUBERNETES

Helm chart

Run replicated Victor management services on Kubernetes 1.29 or newer, with an external database or the bundled database cluster. Manage supported KVM clusters, Kubernetes VMs or both.

04 / AIR GAP

Signed bundle

Verify and load the signed bundle into a site registry with victor-load, or use the Zarf package, then install with Helm or the Host ISO. Enterprise builds and bundles are separate from Community.

Air-gap delivery

For a quick look on a disposable Ubuntu 24.04 machine, the evaluation installer sets up Victor and its required virtualization and database services. It is a development and demo path, not the Host OS.

02 / HARDWARE

Modest to start.#

Victor Host needs an x86-64-v2 server with hardware virtualization. Victor can also manage existing KVM clusters and KubeVirt on x86-64 or arm64. There is no hardware compatibility list. Check a machine with the read-only readiness tool before you install.

Victor Host ISO minimums
CPUx86-64-v2 with VT-x or AMD-V, 2 cores or more
Memory8 GB or more
DiskOne disk of 64 GB or more
FirmwareLegacy BIOS or UEFI; TPM and Secure Boot used when present, never required
Shared storageCeph from three hosts, NFS, or a SAN through shared LVM

03 / BEFORE YOU INSTALL

Know what you are booting.#

A release artifact may trail the current repository. For a hardware test, verify the image checksum, its source commit, the edition and the release’s known gaps. Start on non-production equipment with a disk you intend to wipe.

INSTALL CHECKLIST
  • Check the release’s source revision and edition
  • Verify the ISO checksum before writing media
  • Run victor-hwcheck on each host
  • Back up anything on the selected disk
  • Plan the first network address and sign-in
  • Read the known issues for your storage

04 / AFTER THE FIRST HOST

Grow the cluster.#

victor host / updates
victor-host status
victor-host update victor-host-<v>.oci.tar --reboot # whole-image update
victor-host rollback # back to the previous image
victorctl / hosts and ceph
victorctl host add prod # a one-time join token (or Cluster › Updates › Add host)
victorctl host join # on the new Victor Host
victorctl ceph setup prod # from three hosts
victorctl ceph status prod

FAQ

Install questions.#

Can I install Victor on my own Linux hosts?

Victor can manage existing Incus clusters and Kubernetes clusters running KubeVirt. Joining bring-your-own-OS hosts through Victor’s host join flow is not available yet; use Victor Host for that. #

Is the Host ISO Community or Enterprise?

The published Host ISO is Victor Community. Enterprise is a separate server build and bundle with its license. #

How do I try Enterprise?

Request a demo. Enterprise workflows are shown in a guided walkthrough; the public lab is a Community simulator. #
